She’s a real one, folks.
This isn’t your typical “stock photos of people talking” therapy website. That’s because I’m not your “stock fill in your supportive statement” therapist. I'm a real person in session, just like I’m real outside of session. (Which is also why I have good boundaries, and won’t respond on weekends.) I’m candid and I’ll talk about anything under the sun.
I also am assertive, can get real with the ugly stuff, and value being real and honest.
Humor, metaphor, analogy.
I use metaphor and analogy to engage clients A LOT. Past phrases I’ve used:
-You are a slinky! You can be at more than one level or step in your life.
-Instead of juggling all the balls, drop some balls, you can let some bounce.
-People talk about green and red flags all the time now, but what do yellow and orange flags look like to you?
I use them daily, so be ready.
Support.
You are the best and most honest storyteller of your lived experience. Know that even if you don’t see me, reach out to me, or talk to me, I believe you.
I believe you. I want to be a part of the tribe that’s in your corner, cheering you on and supporting you. I also will help you look for the main people in your tribe, and use them. It is in no way a fault or “needy” thing to desire and want support. It’s community. It is a vital part of the human experience.
Experience.
I started in community mental health, and my passion has always been a systems approach. I have a background in play, focused on children, but my training has always been focused on family and couples. I have been a therapist for 7 years, and working in mental health for over 10. I’m trained in Gottman (Level 2), and use cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solutions focused therapy primarily with individuals. I am licensed in both Indiana and Colorado.
Fun.
I love the fall. I enjoy curling up on my porch with a good book. I prefer the mountains for vacation and travel. I am a sports fan, and also a puzzle + reality tv lady. My laugh is loud and my face gives everything away.
